I have joked that if nothing else, CHASTITY BITES is a living monument to O.C.D. (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), or in other words, never giving up on that thing you feel you simply MUST do.
I wrote the first draft nine years ago, after John and I had been in Los Angeles for a year. I hadn’t written anything in that year, so when John saw a horror screenwriting contest advertised, he challenged me to get to work on a script in my favorite genre. Six weeks later I submitted said script to the contest.
I didn’t place in that contest but I caught the attention of others. I took meetings, and heard why they liked my writing but weren’t going to make this movie. After several years of this, I realized the only way CHASTITY BITES would happen is if I made the darn thing myself. Then there was another long journey of finding investors, producing partners, etc. – but in the end, O.C.D. won out, and here we are!
I will never write a script that is more “me” than CHASTITY BITES. It’s filled with all my obsessions – from nods to the horror (and non-horror) movies I’ve hungrily devoured since childhood, to my passionate political leanings and my desire to spread more “girl power” throughout the media and the world at large. I can understand why that combination might have scared off some Industry Professionals along the way, but part of what has driven me forward all these years is the stalwart belief that there’s an audience who is waiting to see this movie, even if they don’t know it yet!
And so, I am thrilled to finally give birth to CHASTITY BITES — the nine-year pregnancy was getting to be hell on my back. I hope that audience I’ve been thinking of along the way will find it and enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed creating it.
